The Lone Worker Safety Challenge: What Businesses Need to Know
Workplace violence is on the rise, and it’s not just affecting frontline staff—it’s impacting productivity, morale, and overall business performance.
The People Safe Lone Worker Safety 2025 report shows that across sectors, employees are feeling increasingly unsafe, both on the job and during their commute.
Key insights for business leaders:
High-risk sectors: Public-facing roles—healthcare, social care, emergency services, retail, and hospitality—face the highest levels of abuse. For example, 1 in 7 NHS frontline workers experience physical violence each year. Retail incidents have skyrocketed to over 2,000 per day, nearly four times pre-pandemic levels.
Remote and lone workers: Community nurses, delivery drivers, and other mobile roles are particularly vulnerable, with 56% reporting safety incidents.
Culture matters: When abuse is normalised as “part of the job,” it damages recruitment, retention, and employee wellbeing.
