Fire Risk Assessment: Overview and Legal Requirements

Is Your Fire Risk Assessment Up to Date?

Fire safety is not just best practice—it’s a legal requirement. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, any building that is not a single private dwelling must have a fire risk assessment in place.

If you are the Responsible Person—whether an employer, property owner, landlord, or managing agent—you are legally obliged to ensure fire safety. This includes identifying hazards, implementing appropriate safety measures, and maintaining up-to-date documentation.

The Lone Worker Safety Challenge: What Businesses Need to Know

The Lone Worker Safety Challenge: What Businesses Need to Know

Workplace violence is on the rise, and it’s not just affecting frontline staff—it’s impacting productivity, morale, and overall business performance.

The People Safe Lone Worker Safety 2025 report shows that across sectors, employees are feeling increasingly unsafe, both on the job and during their commute.

Key insights for business leaders:

  • High-risk sectors: Public-facing roles—healthcare, social care, emergency services, retail, and hospitality—face the highest levels of abuse. For example, 1 in 7 NHS frontline workers experience physical violence each year. Retail incidents have skyrocketed to over 2,000 per day, nearly four times pre-pandemic levels.

  • Remote and lone workers: Community nurses, delivery drivers, and other mobile roles are particularly vulnerable, with 56% reporting safety incidents

  • Culture matters: When abuse is normalised as “part of the job,” it damages recruitment, retention, and employee wellbeing.

21st October 2025 - HSE Launches Construction Inspections in Manchester

Press Release
Date: 21 October 2025
HSE Launches Construction Inspections in Manchester – Support Available for Businesses

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has today begun a series of unannounced inspections across Manchester city centre as part of its national initiative to tackle ill-health in the construction industry.

Twelve inspectors will visit a range of sites – from large-scale developments to smaller projects – to review how effectively businesses are managing key health and safety risks. The inspections will focus particularly on:

  • Asbestos

  • Dust

  • Noise

  • Musculoskeletal disorders

  • Health surveillance

These visits form part of approximately 14,000 inspections being carried out nationwide by the HSE during the current financial year, with around 8,000 specifically targeting health-related issues in the workplace.

A spokesperson from John Green Health & Safety Ltd said:

“With HSE inspections now underway in Manchester, it’s essential that construction businesses ensure they have the right measures in place to protect their workforce and meet their legal obligations.

Our team is here to help organisations prepare for inspections, liaise directly with the HSE on their behalf, and implement any necessary remedial actions following a visit.”

John Green Health & Safety Ltd offers tailored support to help businesses achieve and maintain compliance with health and safety regulations. This includes inspection readiness assessments, documentation reviews, and practical guidance to strengthen workplace health management systems.
